Climate Change and Green Issues

We will continue to support the rollout of the hugely successful Better Energy Homes Schemes to make homes more energy efficient, cut home heating bills and support local construction jobs. Measures like the new Luas Cross City and the Dublin Bike Scheme will increase use of public transport and reduce carbon emissions. We also need to build better flood defences and carry out remedial drainage works to deal with future global warming.  Labour’s delivery of the climate bill will also help.

Litter, Dog Fouling and Illegal Dumping

Our streets are ruined by dog fouling: a nuisance for pedestrians and very unsafe for children. I am working on getting stronger laws to punish offenders and on introducing an information campaign to educate the public. I am also lobbying for extra bins and bags in our area. I will work with the Council and national government to increase the amount of litter wardens and also to make it easier to fine offenders.

Labour has introduced by-laws which fine householders who don’t have a contract with a waste management company. This will help tackle the problem of illegal dumping.

If elected I will make sure streets are cleaned more frequently and a regular schedule will be published.

I am a regular participant in the Royal Canal Clean-up Group, and support other community cleanups.
